One thing I love about Trader Joe’s is that their inventory rotates for each holiday. Since our family loves to try new foods, we look forward to the over-the-top-new-holiday-food-potpourri that Trader Joe’s has each fall. There is a little bit of everything, but we especially love their all-out pumpkin binge. I basically stand in the aisle, overwhelmed, like a kid on Halloween night at that one house that gives out full-sized candy bars, trying to decide which one I want. It’s so hard to pick just one!! But, since I am an adult, I get to buy more than one pumpkin item from TJ’s.
One sweet that Trader Joe’s has stocked for years, I think since 2014, is their Pumpkin Joe Joe’s. The Joe Joe is Trader Joe’s version of an Oreo and they often change up for each holiday, much like how Oreo’s have different holiday flavors.
When you open the package, the smell is a great mix of ginger and graham cracker. It is a lovely combination in the crisp cookie layers. We enjoy Joe Joe’s in particular because of that crisp cookie. It’s like a drier, thicker, crisper Oreo. It does make these cookies crumble more than an Oreo, unless you dunk them (and these are highly dunkable). The filling is a very pleasant pumpkin flavor. It’s nice and creamy, not too sweet and just the right amount of pumpkin flavor with no aftertaste.
These do not last long however and what we’ve found with Trader Joe’s is that when your local store is out, they are out for good, until next year. Unlike Oreos, which seem to never run out at holidays and often end up in the clearance section, Trader Joe’s will sell out and not refill. If you do not have a Trader Joe’s near you, then you are in luck, as enterprising people have listed two packs on Amazon.com for $15 with free shipping. A slight mark-up over the $3 per box at the store, but worth the splurge if you don’t have a Trader Joe’s nearby!
