We have reviewed a few new sodas on this blog… Coca Cola Cinnamon, Mtn. Dew Berry Mashup, Sprite Winter Spiced Cranberry and Mtn. Dew Maui Burst to name a few. We were completely surprised to see this mash-up combination at the grocery store though. How can you possibly improve on the Dr Pepper’s 23 flavors? Don’t get us wrong, we do like the Cherry Vanilla Dr Pepper but there is nothing like the original for us. We prefer it to almost any other option out there. I wouldn’t say we are purists, okay, maybe we are, but we went into this review with some serious doubts on how these two flavors would go together.
We’ve always wondered what mad scientists propose in flavor labs. I can only imagine how insane they are over at the Mtn. Dew flavor lab, but Dr Pepper seems pretty safe. They know they have a winning flavor on their hands, so don’t mess it up, I think that is their motto by the way. However, this combination of Cream Soda and Dr Pepper wasn’t bad. You get a very strong vanilla flavor from the Cream Soda at first, but that classic Dr Pepper hits you, although the flavor is very muted and then your sip is finished with a very smooth cream soda taste. You miss out on the tried and true Dr Pepper BITE, but I’m sure not all people enjoy that. This soda was probably created for that audience.
We rated this just okay. We really like the original Dr Pepper flavor and the bite that comes with it. Smoothing it out was okay, but not for us. If you don’t like the Dr Pepper bite, then this smoother version might be for you. Regardless, it’s new, it’s fun, try it out and see for yourself. We picked ours up on sale at our local grocery store. It was $2.50 for a 6 pack of 16oz plastic bottles.
