Summer is quickly approaching so we’ve loaded up (see what I did there?) on ice cream treats to review! We saw these load’d cones announced some time ago by Blue Bunny and they looked really intriguing. Blue Bunny ranks slightly above store brands for normal ice cream rankings for us. It’s light and airy and doesn’t have the same high quality as something like Ben and Jerry’s for instance, but it is better than most of the store brands.
There are four varieties of these cones so far, but cookie dough easily won in our grocery store frozen food aisle poll. These are the most upscale ice cream product we’ve seen from Blue Bunny, the price was a little steep for only four cones. However, it is WAY cheaper than taking all four of us to Dairy Queen, so we can’t complain much.
While the box was nice, the cone wrapper had a super luxurious look and feel. The real surprise was in the inside of the cone though. Blue Bunny uses the term “load’d” but we thought these were overloaded with filling! The ice cream is the normal Blue Bunny variety, good not great, but it’s filled with an amazing amount of cookie dough and drizzled with a fantastic chocolatey fudge topping. There is a good 3-4 inches of ice cream over the cone, so make sure yours are frozen well or you are going to have a problem with these overloaded cones!
The cookie dough chunks are HUGE, they have a very very good flavor. We actually thought they were better than the cookie dough from the Ben & Jerry’s snackable dough frozen treats. The cone was super crisp and had a great flavor and there is more fudge/chocolate at the bottom of the cone. These things were amazing.
We picked our up at Hy-Vee, a midwest grocery store chain. We paid $5.99 USD for four cones. We highly recommend everyone try these, they were amazing and perfect for hot summer days.
